Emergence

Emergence

IMG_0939.JPG

With this piece, Emergence, another in my Ellie Collection, and is also completed on 30x24" plywood board, I've tried to give it a slightly drippier look. A vibrant but "cabaret" aura. I wanted the colours and the strokes to be stretched, drizzly and rich, even sickly. I want to emphasis the textures of the room, from fuzzy fur to the obdurate brickwork; from luscious leather to the cold, steal log-burner.

The early composition of this piece sought to fix a drizzly richness within the image. It sought to create life via brightness and wobbly anarchy. I painted this onto a stained black background, from which the image of Ellie "emerged'. Once again, as I have tried to achieve with this collection, we get an intimate peek into her life, and the point-of-view from which the image is painted, is very low, below her eye-level, and this gives in a distinct presence and impression with which I'm very happy.
