Intimacy
This is the first in a series of paintings of my dog, Ellie. I've called it Intimacy because, like the others in this series (which I will reveal over the coming weeks and months), it peers into her intimate existence. Some paintings, particularly of dogs or other animals, set the dog as the subject. One gets the distinct impression that the animal is the focus, but a detached focal point. The purpose of the painting is to paint the dog and record their "memory", give testament to their form, colour, shape etc. With Intimacy, I'm trying to capture her experience, give the observer a peek into her existence, her life. She isn't the subject, she is interacting with the observer, and this interaction is subject-matter, of which she is part of, but dynamically as opposed to statically.
